The Grand Ducal Police has announced that it will host an international training course dedicated to facial reconstruction, set to take place from Monday 3 to Sunday 7 August 2026 at the police premises in Luxembourg-Verlorenkost.
As part of ongoing professional training, two forensic officers from the Technical Police of the Criminal Investigation Department completed several weeks of training with experts in the United States (US) in 2025 to specialise in facial reconstruction.
The police explained that facial reconstruction is used in criminal investigations when a victim can no longer be identified. They noted that only a small number of police experts in Europe currently master the technique, including the two Grand Ducal Police officers, which enables investigators to recreate a victim's face. The police also stated that it operates Europe's first official in-house police facial reconstruction unit.
The training course will bring together several police officers from the Benelux countries, colleagues from the Greater Region and two police officers from Abu Dhabi. The initiative is organised by the Grand Ducal Police with the support of Joe Mullins from the George Mason University School of Forensic Science in Fairfax, Virginia, US.
The aim of the training is to equip participants with facial reconstruction expertise, enabling them to establish their own in-house specialists in the future, noted the police.
