On Monday 27 July 2026, the Grand Ducal Police reported that it had recently increased police checks in Luxembourg-Ville on the afternoon and evening of Thursday 23 July, during which checks uncovered instances of drug possession, intoxication and other offences.
According to the police, the increased checks took place in particular in the Hamilius and Place d'Armes areas of Luxembourg-Ville.
The police detailed that the operation involved 20 officers from various police units, as well as a drug detection dog. The checks were intended to increase the police presence in public spaces, conduct targeted identity checks and detect potential offences relating to active mobility ("mobilité douce").
During the operation, 30 people were checked. Among other things, a heavily intoxicated person who posed a danger to themselves and others was taken into temporary police custody. In addition, drugs were discovered in two cases and the appropriate measures were initiated. A fixed fine was also issued in one case.
As part of the active mobility checks, officers inspected eight electric bicycles and two e-scooters to verify their maximum permitted speed. No offences were detected. However, two people were issued with fixed fines after riding a bicycle and an e-scooter respectively through the pedestrian zone, despite this being prohibited.
