The Grand Ducal Police have reported that during the night of Monday 3 to Tuesday 4 August 2026, several acts of vandalism and theft occurred at the cemetery on Route de Dudelange in Bettembourg.
According to the latest information, a total of more than 60 graves were damaged. Among other items, around 50 crosses and grave ornaments were removed, many of which were made of bronze, copper or brass.
In addition, a columbarium structure was damaged with a marble stone that had previously been removed from another grave. At the mortuary, a key box was forcibly opened and the key inside was stolen.
The police have confirmed investigations are still ongoing.
