From Sunday 11 to Tuesday 13 October 2026, Luxembourg’s Minister of Finance Gilles Roth undertook a financial mission to Vietnam with Luxembourg for Finance (LFF), during which he held a bilateral meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung in Hanoi.
According to Luxembourg’s Ministry of Finance, both parties highlighted the excellent relations between Luxembourg and Vietnam, which date back more than 50 years, and explored ways to deepen them, particularly in finance, sustainable investment and economic development.
Luxembourg is currently among the leading European investors in Vietnam, the ministry noted. During the visit, Minister Roth signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with his Vietnamese counterpart, Ngo Van Tuan, on cooperation between the two countries’ financial centres. According to the ministry, the agreement marks a further step in strengthening bilateral relations.
"The signing of the memorandum of understanding constitutes an important step in the development of our financial cooperation with Vietnam. Together, we wish to promote the sharing of expertise, support financial innovation, develop talent training and contribute to the creation of sustainable opportunities for the benefit of our two economies," said Minister Roth.
In Ho Chi Minh City, Minister Roth met representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange to deepen cooperation in the areas of capital markets, digital finance and sustainable finance. Furthermore, the Luxembourg Stock Exchange (LuxSE) already signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of sustainable finance with the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange in 2022.
Minister Roth also held talks with Truong Minh Huy Vu, Vice-President of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and President of the Vietnam International Financial Centre. According to the ministry, discussions focused on opportunities to develop cooperation between Luxembourg's financial centre and the future Vietnamese international financial centre.
On the sidelines of his visit, Minister Roth met several representatives of Vietnam's financial centre to discuss prospects for collaboration and the development of economic and financial relations between the two countries.
Minister Roth will continue his trip to Asia by attending the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group in Bangkok, Thailand.
