The Luxembourg Administration of Bridges and Roads has announced that from Monday 1 December 2025, the fixed cameras installed on the A3 officially entered their testing phase.

The cameras, installed at the end of October 2025 on both sides of the A3 motorway will monitor the third lane designated for carpooling.

Within the framework of the A3 motorway widening project, the first stage was completed in March 2025 with the opening of the first 2x3-lane section and the introduction of Luxembourg’s first carpooling lane.

The carpooling lane connects the Berchem rest area to the Gasperich interchange. On this stretch, the left-hand lane is exclusively reserved for carpooling and buses. Only vehicles with at least two occupants may use it.

According to the administration, the radars, each facing one direction of traffic, are equipped with cameras capable of recognising silhouettes - in accordance with current data protection legislation (GDPR) - and of determining the number of occupants in the vehicle.

During the test phase, no fixed-penalty notices will be issued by the automated monitoring and enforcement system. The start of the enforcement phase will be announced in due course by the competent authorities.
