On Sunday 31 May 2026, the International School of Luxembourg (ISL) celebrated the graduation of 121 students at the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg, marking the largest graduating class in the school's history.

According to ISL, 21 graduates began their educational journey at the school in Kindergarten, highlighting the long-term connection many families have with the school community. Their progression from the Lower School through to graduation reflected what the school described as the “continuity” and “sense of belonging” that characterise the ISL experience.

The ceremony took place in the presence of Luxembourg's Minister of Education, Children and Youth, Claude Meisch. Upper School Deputy Principal Alex Rakochy served as master of ceremonies, while ISL Director Iain Fish and Minister Meisch addressed the graduates.

ISL reported that both speakers reflected on the opportunities and responsibilities that accompany an international education and encouraged students to use their talents, education and experiences to make a positive contribution to society.

In his address, Iain Fish challenged graduates to consider how they would use the education and opportunities they had received. Drawing on the concept of "moral ambition", he encouraged students to use their knowledge, talents and experiences to contribute positively to society and to lead with "kindness, empathy and purpose".

Minister Meisch congratulated the graduates on their achievements and highlighted ISL's role within Luxembourg's educational landscape. He praised the school's commitment to international understanding, diversity and student engagement, noting that the Class of 2026 leaves ISL equipped with both academic knowledge and the skills needed to navigate a rapidly changing world.

The ceremony also featured musical performances by ISL students and a commemorative class video reflecting on friendships, shared experiences and memories from their years at the school.

Faculty-elected speaker Michal Waligora reflected on the friendships, challenges and traditions that shaped the Class of 2026, while student-elected speaker Adrian Karlstedt shared personal memories from his years at ISL and thanked those who had supported the graduates throughout their educational journey.

During the diploma presentation, Michal Waligora received the ECIS Award, which recognises students who exemplify international understanding, intercultural respect, leadership, multilingualism and service to the school community.

According to ISL, the ceremony concluded with the official conferral of diplomas, the turning of tassels and the traditional cap toss, marking the graduates' transition from students to alumni. A reception for graduates, families and guests followed the ceremony.
