The Luxembourg City Business Association (UCVL) and the City of Luxembourg (VdL) have announced that they are organising the “Windows of Wonder” Christmas shop window decoration competition from Monday 1 to Wednesday 31 December 2025, taking place across the capital’s 24 districts.
The aim of the initiative is to spread the festive spirit through decorated shop windows and contribute to the Christmas atmosphere in Luxembourg City.
A jury will evaluate the decorations of participating shops based on defined criteria, including the overall aesthetic of the display, technical execution, originality, creativity and the integration of the products sold into the display.
The jury will then select three joint winners, each receiving a prize of €2,000 offered by the Vdl. In addition, between Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 31 December 2025, the public will be able to vote for their favourite - “coup de cœur” - window display online at www.concours-cityshopping.lu. The shop with the highest number of votes will receive a €2,000 prize, while one voter will be selected by lottery to win a €200 shopping voucher.
For the competition rules, entry form and public voting for the “Windows of Wonder” contest, see cityshopping.lu.
Shop registrations are open until Thursday 6 November 2025 via email: info@cityshopping.lu
In parallel, the VdL will once again hold free Christmas window design training sessions to help local retailers enhance their product presentation and communication with customers.
Basic training will take place on Monday 3 November 2025, from 14:00 to 18:00. The session aims to cover the fundamentals of visual merchandising, including storytelling through products, integrating festive themes and using available materials effectively. The workshop concludes with a creative Christmas wreath-making exercise.
Advanced training sessions will be held on Wednesday 5 November, from 14:00 to 18:00, and Monday 10 November 2025, from 08:00 to 12:00. The sessions aim to deepen participants' creative approach using tools such as Pinterest, mood boards and artificial intelligence. Case studies will identify strengths and areas for improvement. The session concludes with a hands-on workshop to create a reusable Christmas tree.
Training sessions will take place at the VdL Design Hub in Luxembourg-Hollerich (42-44 Rue de Hollerich).
Registration for the free training sessions is open to retailers in the City of Luxembourg until Monday 27 October 2025 via email: dec@vdl.lu (maximum ten participants per session; first-come, first-served).
