On Thursday 29 January 2026, the Luxembourgish supermarket chain Cactus announced the launch of “Protein +”, a range of “Cactus Hausgemaacht” (homemade) meats and “Schnékert Traiteur” prepared meals with plant-based proteins.

According to Cactus, the range was developed in its production workshops to respond to the expectations of a broader audience, including athletes, active people, as well as seniors and other consumers concerned about their nutritional balance.

“Protein +” products contain 100% plant-based and natural protein, based on peas and wheat, of European origin. This ingredient is supplied by Moulins de Kleinbettingen SA production facility. Integrated into the recipes, the protein allows the products to contain up to 33 grams of protein per 100 grams of preparation.

“With the ‘Protein +’ range, we wanted to go further in our butcher’s profession by offering products that combine meat quality, taste and a concrete response to current nutritional expectations. This approach allows us to evolve our recipes in a reasoned way, while remaining faithful to Cactus’ DNA: quality, homemade products and proximity,” commented Philippe Van Hasselt, Director of the butcheries of the Cactus SA group.

The “Protein +” range is available in several products:
• “Cactus Hausgemaacht” meats, such as sausages, minced meat and hamburgers;
• “Schnékert Traiteur” prepared dishes, including meatballs with rice and broccoli, tagliatelle bolognese and Wäinzoossiss with mustard sauce and mashed potatoes.

Cactus noted that this range is aimed at different audiences, according to their needs:
• for athletes and active people, aged eighteen to 35 years, to support effort, promote recovery and contribute to maintaining muscle mass;
• for those aged 35 to 55 years, who wish to preserve their health, improve the feeling of satiety and maintain a dietary balance adapted to a busy lifestyle;
• for those aged 55 years and over, to support the maintenance of muscle mass and meet specific protein needs, with a focus on well-being and age-related prevention.

“This range was designed based on our customers’ expectations, taking into account nutritional needs at each stage of life. ‘Protein +’ provides a clear answer: eating better, simply and without giving up pleasure. It illustrates our desire to anticipate market developments while remaining faithful to what defines us: Hausgemaacht products, accessible and adapted to everyone,” explained Véronique Schmitt, Marketing, Communication and CSR Director of Cactus.
