The Greek Cinema Club (Ciné-club hellénique de Luxembourg) has announced two screenings of Kyuka: Before Summer’s End (2024), which will take place on Tuesday 29 September at 19:00 and Wednesday 30 September at 21:00 at Cinéma Utopia in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg.
Directed by Kostis Charamountanis, the 105-minute film will be screened in its original Greek version with English subtitles. The film is suitable for audiences aged sixteen and over.
Synopsis: During the summer in Greece, single father Babis takes his twin children, Konstantinos and Elsa, who are on the verge of adulthood, on a sailing holiday to the island of Poros. Amid swimming, sunbathing and new friendships, the twins unknowingly meet their birth mother, Anna, who left them when they were babies. The encounter brings long-held emotions to the surface and sets the family on a bittersweet coming-of-age journey.
The film stars Elsa Lekakou, Konstantinos Georgopoulos, Simeon Tsakiris, Elena Topalidou and Stathis Apostolou.
Kostis Charamountanis is a self-taught film director, screenwriter, editor and composer. His debut feature, Kyuka: Before Summer’s End, premiered at Cannes as part of L’ACID, won four awards at the 65th Thessaloniki International Film Festival and had its US premiere at MoMA’s 54th New Directors/New Films Festival. In 2025, he received the Best Newcomer Director Award from the Hellenic Film Academy (Iris Awards).
Tickets cost €6 for club members and €12 for non-members and can be purchased via Luxembourg Ticket or at the cinema from 30 minutes before the screening (cash only).
