On Friday 26 June 2026, Luxembourg's Minister for Gender Equality and Diversity, Yuriko Backes, presented the 2025 annual report of the Committee for Cooperation between Professionals in the Field of Combating Violence, highlighting a further increase in police interventions and eviction orders related to domestic violence.
The report contains domestic violence statistics provided by the Public Prosecutor's Offices of the Luxembourg and Diekirch district courts, the Grand Ducal Police, victim support services (SAVVD, PSYea and ALTERNATIVES) and the service supporting perpetrators of domestic violence (Riicht Eraus).
Key figures
- 1,297 police interventions were recorded in 2025, an increase of 10.1% compared with 2024 (1,178 interventions), representing an average of 108 interventions per month.
- A total of 2,802 victims were identified during police interventions, comprising 58% women and 42% men.
- Police identified 2,075 perpetrators of domestic violence, of whom 63.5% were men and 36.4% were women.
- The Public Prosecutor's Office ordered 334 eviction orders, 47 more than in 2024, representing an average of 28 evictions per month, or nearly one eviction per day.
- Eviction orders were extended 130 times.
- Among perpetrators subject to an eviction order, 87.7% were men and 12.3% were women. Among victims, 81.6% were women and 18.4% were men.
- According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, around 81% of domestic violence cases occur within intimate relationships.
During the press conference, Minister Backes stated: "In the fight against domestic violence, we continue to rely on a multidimensional approach combining victim protection, support for perpetrators of violence and awareness-raising, all underpinned by a strong legal framework. It is important to reach everyone and ensure simple and rapid access to support services. By intervening early and reaching everyone, we can provide the necessary assistance and help break the cycle of violence."
Ahead of the press conference, Minister Backes also met with members of the Chamber of Deputies' Committee on Family, Solidarity, Living Together, Reception, Gender Equality and Diversity to present the report's main findings.
