Luxair has confirmed that one of its flights to Dubai returned to Luxembourg Airport on Saturday 28 February 2026 due to the deteriorating security situation in the region.

Citing ongoing tensions and airspace security concerns, Luxair stated that flight LG9009 turned back to Luxembourg as a precautionary measure, in line with measures taken by several other airlines. A total of 131 passengers were on board.

Luxair said it would continue to closely monitor the situation and take all necessary precautions. The airline apologised for the inconvenience caused and thanked passengers for their understanding, stressing that the safety of passengers and crew remains its "top priority".

The decision comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East following reported US and Israeli strikes on Iran after weeks of threats and negotiations concerning Iran's nuclear programme. According to international media reports, several global airlines have suspended or rerouted flights across parts of the region.

Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Xavier Bettel, said on social media that the Foreign Ministry "strongly advises against travel to the Middle East, including Gulf countries, amid the current military escalation". He urged nationals to "follow local authorities' instructions", stay informed and register their stay abroad on "Lëtzebuerger am Ausland".
