On Friday 2 May 2025, Luxembourg’s Minister for the Civil Service, Serge Wilmes, and the Mayor of Clervaux, Georges Keipes, officially inaugurated a new coworking space for public sector employees in Clervaux.
The facility, offering fourteen workstations, expands a coworking programme that began in March 2024 with the opening of a first location in Schieren, which offers 22 workstations.
“Coworking brings employees’ workplaces closer to their homes,” Minister Wilmes stated at the inauguration. He added: “Coworking not only improves employees’ quality of life and well-being at work, but also contributes to environmental protection.”
According to the Ministry for the Civil Service, more than 1,000 employees residing in northern Luxembourg or neighbouring areas of Belgium and Germany could save nearly one hour of commuting and approximately 72 kilometres of travel per day by working in Clervaux instead of commuting to Luxembourg City. Over the course of a year, this could translate to a reduction of up to 26.2 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
The initiative is part of the 2023–2028 government programme and aims to further expand coworking options for public sector employees. A new site is scheduled to open in September 2025 in Dudelange/Bettembourg with 32 workstations. By the end of 2026, a total of 120 coworking workstations are expected to be available to public sector staff.
