
The new year honours list 2016 has been published and includes the name of Nicholas Forwood, formerly Judge of the General Court at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg, for services to European justice.
The new year honours list includes the names of the new knights, dames, MBEs and OBEs in the UK and overseas, plus military and police honours. In the Diplomatic Service and Overseas List, Hon Judge Nicholas James Forwood QC is included as a Knight Bachelor of the Order of the Bath. His entry is as follows:
As the UK judge of the EU General Court and the Chair of a chamber for six years, Judge Forwood has made a significant contribution to the development of EU law and took part in many of the Court’s leading judgements. He played a leading role in the development of procedural reforms which substantially improved the functioning of the General Court. He was a founding trustee of European Children in Crisis (ECiC), a charity to aid children and their families facing personal crises associated with moving between countries and cultures; and a governor of St George’s International School in Luxembourg where he took the lead in the transformation of the school from a small private school into a non-profit organisation with over 600 students.
In total 1,196 people have received an award; 1,044 candidates (48% of which are women) have been selected at BEM, MBE and OBE level. 329 at BEM, 472 at MBE and 243 at OBE; 76% of the recipients are people who have undertaken outstanding work in their communities either in a voluntary or paid capacity.
Honours lists are published at New Year and on The Queen’s official birthday in June.
