On Tuesday 13 October 2026, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Culture and the National Fund for Audiovisual Production Support reported on Minister of Culture Eric Thill’s working visit to Busan and Seoul (South Korea).

According to the ministry, from Saturday 10 to Tuesday 13 October, Minister took part in the South Korean leg of the scouting and promotional mission organised by Film Fund Luxembourg. Accompanied by a delegation of Luxembourg audio visual industry professionals, the minister met with institutional representatives and creative industry stakeholders to develop partnerships and explore new opportunities for collaboration between the two countries. The visit also included a tribute to the victims of the Korean War and to the Luxembourg volunteers who participated in the United Nations mission.

In Busan, new opportunities for audiovisual cooperation

The ministry reported that the mission began in Busan on the occasion of the Busan International Film Festival, one of Asia’s leading film events, which brings together filmmakers, producers and industry professionals from around the world.

On Saturday 10 October, Eric Thill met with Han Sang-jun, president of the Korean Film Council (KOFIC). The meeting was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between KOFIC and Film Fund Luxembourg, establishing a framework for developing relations between the public film-support organisations of the two countries.

The following day, the Luxembourg delegation took part in a networking event dedicated to Luxembourg, organised as part of the Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM). The event provided an opportunity for industry professionals to establish new contacts and explore co-production opportunities. The minister also met with Ellen Kim, director of ACFM, before touring the market and meeting representatives of the Producers Guild of Korea (PGK).

Visits to the F1963 cultural centre and ARTE Busan, an immersive exhibition dedicated to digital art, rounded out the programme, offering insights into different approaches to artistic creation and the presentation of art to the public.

In Seoul, bilateral dialogue, creative industries and tribute to Luxembourg volunteers

On Sunday 11 October, Minister Thill was received by his counterpart, Chae Hwi-young, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea. The bilateral meeting provided an opportunity to review cultural relations between the two countries and discuss potential areas of collaboration, particularly in the audiovisual sector.

On Tuesday 13 October, marking the 75th anniversary of Luxembourg’s participation in the Korean War, the minister laid a wreath at the Korean War Memorial. The ceremony, honouring the victims of the conflict and the Luxembourg volunteers, served as a reminder of the historical ties between Luxembourg and the Republic of Korea, as well as their shared commitment to peace, freedom and international solidarity.

On the same day, Minister Thill visited Nexon Korea to learn about the activities of the video game company. The visit focused in particular on sound creation and production processes, as well as the artistic and technical skills involved in the sector.

A meeting with the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) also provided an opportunity to exchange views on support programmes for the creative industries and potential avenues for collaboration between the Luxembourg and South Korean creative ecosystems.

“This visit enabled us to establish direct contacts with key players in the film industry and the creative industries. The signing of the memorandum of understanding between Film Fund Luxembourg and KOFIC represents a concrete step forward in deepening our cooperation. Beyond these professional opportunities, laying a wreath at the Korean War Memorial was a particularly moving moment, reminding us of the commitment of Luxembourg’s volunteers and the deep historical ties that unite our two countries. This ceremony highlights the importance of a culture of remembrance that preserves the memory of sacrifices made in the name of peace and freedom and passes this legacy on to future generations. It also gives particular significance to our determination to strengthen relations between Luxembourg and the Republic of Korea,” said Minister Thill.

The professional delegation’s programme will continue in Seoul until Wednesday 14 October, with meetings at Venta X and Dexter Studio.
