The Luxembourg authorities have reported that the severe weather risk assessment unit (CERI) met late on Tuesday morning to assess the weather forecast issued by MeteoLux.
An orange weather warning (indicating "danger") is in effect nationwide on Tuesday 1 July 2025 from 12:00 (noon) to 21:00, with maximum temperatures expected to reach between 33°C and 35°C (up to 36°C in urban areas).
The heat warning has been extended to Wednesday 2 July 2025, with an upgraded alert level. MeteoLux has issued a red warning (indicating "significant danger") for southern Luxembourg from 12:00 to 20:00. Maximum temperatures in this region may reach 35°C to 37°C in urban areas and up to 38°C along the Moselle. For northern Luxembourg, an orange warning will be in place during the same period, with maximum temperatures forecast between 33°C and 35°C (potentially up to 36°C in urban areas).
With the increased alert level, CERI has reiterated several recommendations to help limit the effects of the extreme heat:
- drink plenty of water regularly throughout the day (at least 1.5 litres per day);
- avoid going outside (prolonged and direct exposure to the sun) during the hottest hours of the day, i.e. 11:00-21:00;
- keep blinds / shutters, curtains and windows closed during the day and ventilate at night;
- wear a head covering outdoors;
- wear light clothing;
- limit physical activity;
- use fans or air conditioning to cool down;
- spend time in cool or air-conditioned places (e.g. supermarkets, cinemas);
- wet your body several times a day (e.g. with a spray or by showering);
- stay in contact with vulnerable people and help them access cool areas.
The CERI is scheduled to meet again on Wednesday morning to re-evaluate the situation and issue further updates as necessary.
