Luxembourg's official weather portal, MeteoLux, has issued heat warnings for the Grand Duchy on Tuesday 12 and Wednesday 13 August 2025.

A yellow heat warning (indicating "potential danger") is in effect nationwide on Tuesday from 13:00 to 19:00. Maximum temperatures are set to reach between 30°C and 33°C (up to 34°C possible in urban areas).

On Wednesday, temperatures are expected to rise further. A yellow warning will be in place in northern Luxembourg from 13:00 to 19:00, with highs again between 30°C and 33°C (up to 34°C in urban areas). Meanwhile, an orange warning (indicating "danger") will be in place for southern Luxembourg during the same hours, with maximum temperatures forecast between 33°C and 35°C (up to 36°C in urban areas).

In response to this orange alert, the severe weather risk assessment unit (CERI) convened on Wednesday to evaluate the situation.

The CERI reiterated several recommended behaviours to adopt to help limit the effects of the heat:

  • drink plenty of water regularly throughout the day (at least 1.5 litres);
  • avoid going outside (for prolonged or direct exposure to the sun) during the hottest hours, i.e. 11:00 to 21:00;
  • keep blinds / shutters, curtains and windows closed during the day and ventilate at night;
  • wear a head covering outdoors;
  • wear light clothing;
  • limit physical activity;
  • stay in contact with vulnerable people and help them access cool places.

The CERI said it is not currently planning further meetings, although the relevant services will continue to closely monitor the situation.

Participants in the CERI include the High Commission for National Protection (HCPN), MeteoLux, Luxembourg's Ministry of Health and Social Security, the Water Management Authority and the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS).
