From Monday 15 to Tuesday 30 September 2025, officers from the Grand Ducal Police conducted checks around school premises specifically focused on the start of the school year and the safety of children travelling to and from school.
On Thursday 2 October, the police reported that during this period a total of 280 fines were issued for illegal parking. In addition, 200 fines were issued for speeding. Forty-three fines were issued for failure to wear a seatbelt (21 cases involved adults and 22 involved minors) and seventeen fines were issued for the absence of an approved child seat: for children under three years of age and for children aged three to seventeen whose height does not reach 150 cm. Moreover, eleven fines were issued for using a mobile phone while driving.
The police also communicated the following advice for parents, children and motorists.
Younger children are often not yet aware of road hazards and are less visible due to their smaller size, particularly in the early morning when it is still dark. Therefore, even outside the start-of-term period, all road users are urged to exercise particular caution around schools:
• Be attentive and watch out for children.
• Adjust your speed when approaching school areas.
