On Wednesday 15 October 2025, Luxembourg's Ministry of Mobility and Public Works, together with Sécurité Routière (Road Safety) Asbl and the Saint-Hubert Federation of Hunters of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (FSHCL) Asbl, announced the launch of an awareness campaign to remind all road users to be vigilant during the driven hunt ("chasse en battue") season.

The hunting season will take place across the Grand Duchy from Saturday 18 October 2025 to Saturday 31 January 2026.

During this period, motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are advised to pay particular attention to roadside areas, particularly in wooded areas or when signs indicate the risk of wild animals crossing. It is also recommended that everyone adapt their speed according to the circumstances.

When the "Chasse en cours / Vorsicht Treibjagd" ("Hunting in Progress") sign is displayed on the roadside, road users should reduce their speed, as wild animals or dogs may appear at any time and cross the road.

The campaign partners advised the following behaviours to adopt in the event of an encounter with one or more wild animals.

If you are on the road: reduce your speed; honk your horn and turn on your dipped headlights, keeping in mind that the intensity of light can disturb animals and other drivers. Motorists and cyclists should also be aware that wild animals often travel in groups, increasing the risk of multiple crossings.

If you are on the road and an animal is crossing and there is a risk of collision: brake immediately; do not try to avoid the animal; keep a firm grip on the steering wheel; stay in a straight line.

If you are on the road and a collision occurs: turn on your hazard lights; put on a high-visibility vest before getting out of the vehicle; secure the scene of the accident by placing a warning triangle; notify the police immediately. The authorities warned not to approach the animal under any circumstances, as an injured animal can be dangerous: stay away, do not touch or move it; wait for law enforcement or the appropriate authorities, who will be able to manage the situation.

If you are on foot or a bicycle: for safety reasons, it is strongly recommended not to walk in affected areas during the hunting season - these areas are duly marked with signs warning of the movement of wild animals or the presence of hunts. The dates and locations of the hunts can be found on the website www.geoportail.lu.

If you encounter one or more wild animals: do not panic, stay calm and maintain eye contact with the animal; back away slowly without turning around. If you are accompanied by a dog, adopt the same behaviour; it is strongly recommended to keep your dog on a leash throughout the walk to ensure its own safety.

The awareness campaign will be broadcast on several media, including radio, social media and RGTR buses.
