On Tuesday 21 January 2026, the Grand Ducal Police reported that several driving bans were issued overnight following traffic checks across Luxembourg.

According to the police, at approximately 17:20 on Tuesday 20 January, they were notified of a road traffic accident involving two cars in Rue Joseph Kieffer in Esch-sur-Alzette. The incident resulted in material damage only. However, one of the drivers tested positive for alcohol, whereupon a provisional driving ban was issued. An accident report was drawn up.

Later that evening, police officers carried out a traffic check in the Montée de Bridel in Kopstal. The main purpose of the check was to verify whether drivers were authorised to use a road section subject to a general driving ban. In the case of one driver, officers detected the smell of cannabis. The roadside drug test returned a positive result. Drug paraphernalia were found inside the vehicle and a small quantity of drugs was found on the driver. A report was drawn up.

Then, as part of the police’s “Gutt gesinn” campaign, at around 18:00 officers checked a vehicle on Rue de la Frontière in Vianden, from which a strong smell of cannabis was emanating. The roadside drug test carried out on the female driver was positive, and a small quantity of cannabis was seized from her. A report was drawn up.

At approximately 02:35 on Wednesday 21 January, a police patrol noticed a vehicle on Boulevard Royal in the Upper Town that was driving erratically in the direction of the main railway station. The vehicle was stopped shortly afterwards. An alcohol test carried out on the female driver returned a positive result and a provisional driving ban was issued.

Moreover, at approximately 04:10 a police patrol noticed a vehicle travelling at excessive speed on Route de Longwy in Rodange, which eventually stopped at a petrol station. The driver was subjected to a check and both the alcohol test and drug test returned positive results, whereupon the driver’s licence was confiscated. In addition, drugs were seized from the driver. A report was drawn up.
