The Grand Ducal Police have reported that on Sunday 1 February 2026, they carried out alcohol intoxication checks on the instruction of the Public Prosecutor, as provided for in Article 12, paragraph 3, subparagraph 8 of the amended law of 14 February 1955 concerning traffic regulations on all public roads.
According to the police, the checks took place from 01:30 to 02:30 on Rue d’Arlon in Mersch and from 00:00 to 01:00 on Rue de Luxembourg in Rollingen.
In Mersch, a total of 87 motorists were subjected to a preliminary breath test, even in the absence of any serious indication. In ten cases, the test returned a positive result and reports or fixed-penalty warnings were issued accordingly. One driving licence was confiscated on the spot. Another offence was recorded in relation to failure to produce a valid probationary logbook.
In Rollingen, a total of 107 motorists were subjected to a preliminary breath test, even in the absence of any serious indication. In six cases, the test returned a positive result and reports or fixed-penalty warnings were issued accordingly. The police also recorded three other offences involving failure to produce a valid driving licence, a road tax vignette which was unpaid for less than 60 days after its expiry and an instance of tyres showing exposed casing.
