The Grand Ducal Police have reported that an oil film was discovered on the Moselle near the port in Mertert on the evening of Sunday 8 March 2026.
According to initial information, an oil film was observed drifting on the river, prompting an immediate response. Police officers and units from the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) attended the scene.
A complaint regarding environmental pollution was filed and an investigation into the cause of the contamination has been launched and remains ongoing.
Clean-up operations at the site are still underway.
