On Thursday 9 April 2026, the Grand Ducal Police reported that it will participate in the pan-European road safety campaign “Speedmarathon”, which runs from Monday 13 to Sunday 19 April 2026.

Organised by Roadpol, the network of road police forces across Europe, this campaign forms part of the fight against excessive speed, the leading cause of road fatalities in Europe and a key factor in causing and aggravating accidents. Police checks will therefore be specifically focused on the speed of road users during this period.

As part of the campaign, the Grand Ducal Police will also take part in the 2026 edition of the “Speedmarathon” operation, which will take place on Wednesday 15 April 2026. In this context, they will carry out numerous speed checks across the entire territory over 24 hours (00:00–24:00), particularly during peak hours.

The operation is conducted at European level under the supervision of Roadpol (European Roads Policing Network) and takes place simultaneously in many countries.

The Grand Ducal Police said that the “Speedmarathon” aims to raise public awareness of the dangers associated with speeding in order to prevent road accidents. To this end, the operation will be widely covered on the police’s social media channels, where information on the latest checks and prevention messages, along with photo reports, will be shared with the public.

To increase interaction and thereby broaden the reach of this awareness campaign, the Grand Ducal Police invites citizens to vote for locations where potential checks will be carried out as part of the “Speedmarathon” campaign.

On Friday 10 April 2026, the police will offer users, via its Instagram account - @policelux - the choice between two possible locations per police region (North, South-West, Centre-East, Capital). Subsequently, and depending on patrol availability, the checks will be included in the operation’s planning.
