The City of Luxembourg (VdL) has informed that the Lëtzebuerg City Bibliothèque will be temporarily closed from Monday 4 to Monday 18 May 2026 inclusive, in order to carry out refurbishment works.
According to the VdL, the works will form part of a modernisation approach aimed at making the space more functional, accessible and contemporary.
In the entrance hall of the building, a new brochure display stand will centralise all essential information relating to the library and other City services, while the installation of a book return box will allow documents to be returned outside opening hours. In addition, the new project will provide a small waiting area for more comfortable reception, while plant containers will aim to create a warmer and more welcoming atmosphere.
VdL noted that accessibility at the library will improve, with the lending desk adapted for persons with reduced mobility and a redesigned layout to ensure smoother operation.
As part of the modernisation, refurbishment works will also be carried out to introduce the self-scan system, aimed at improving user autonomy and reducing waiting times.
Reading and working areas will be upgraded, with new seating in the periodicals section, reorganised workstations for individual and group use, and the installation of an acoustic booth in an environment that respects the quiet of other users.
Further plans include transforming the terrace into a dedicated outdoor library space for the start of the school year. It will feature seating suitable for reading, improved lighting and new planting, creating a green, pleasant and welcoming environment.
The VdL added that return deadlines for documents due during the closure period will be automatically extended until the reopening of the library on Tuesday 19 May 2026.
