The Grand Ducal Police has reported several drink-driving offences and driving licence withdrawals following alcohol checks and traffic incidents across Luxembourg during the night from Friday 8 to Saturday 9 May 2026.

On Friday, between 22:00 and 23:30, the officers carried out an alcohol screening operation in Sanem on the order of the State Prosecutor, in accordance with Luxembourg’s road traffic legislation.

A total of 230 motorists underwent preliminary breath tests, even in the absence of any serious indication of alcohol consumption. In seven cases, the tests returned positive results. Police issued three fines and filed four official reports. The police also confiscated two driving licences on the spot.

A second alcohol check took place in Differdange on Saturday between 00:30 and 02:00. During this operation, 59 motorists underwent preliminary breath tests, from which police recorded four positive results, issued one fine and filed three official reports. Officers confiscated three driving licences.

The police also reported several additional incidents linked to alcohol consumption.

Shortly before 22:00, a police patrol in Esch-sur-Alzette observed a driver “accelerating so strongly at traffic lights when they turned green that he nearly lost control of his vehicle”, police said.

Another incident was reported at around 02:30, when police received information about a vehicle driving in “a zigzag manner” on the A4 near Pontpierre. Officers located the vehicle shortly afterwards and carried out a check on the driver.

At around 03:00, police officers stopped a vehicle with tyre damage in Verlorenkost and carried out checks on the driver. Shortly before 05:00, a police patrol in Sanem observed a car colliding with a post at a petrol station.

As alcohol tests returned positive in all four cases, police confiscated the driving licences on the spot and filed reports.
