Around 13:30 on Tuesday 19 May 2026, the Grand Ducal Police reported that several pickpocketing incidents had been reported in Luxembourg City in recent hours.
For example, on the evening of Monday 18 May 2026, a theft was reported near Place de la Gare in the capital's train station district (Luxembourg-Gare). According to initial information, a woman had her mobile phone stolen from her handbag without noticing. An investigation has been launched.
The police noted that pickpockets typically take advantage of crowds and moments of inattention to steal valuables. Victims often only realise they have been targeted long after the theft has taken place.
The police also issued preventive advice on how to protect oneself from pickpockets:
- take only as much cash and bank / credit cards as necessary;
- always keep bags closed and never leave them unattended;
- wear bags on the front of the body;
- keep wallets and other valuables in an inside jacket pocket;
- try to keep a safe distance from strangers.
Suspicious individuals who may be involved in pickpocketing can be reported to the police by calling 113.
