On Wednesday 1 July 2026, as part of the National Day celebrations, Yuriko Backes, Luxembourg's Minister for Mobility and Public Works, presented honorary medals to 82 employees of the aviation companies Cargolux and Luxair.
According to Luxembourg's Ministry of Mobility and Public Works, 37 employees received the Order of the Oak Crown (Ordre de la Couronne de chêne), while 45 were awarded the Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (Ordre de Mérite du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg).
The distinctions, awarded in the name of Grand Duke Guillaume, recognise the exemplary commitment of those who have contributed, throughout their careers, to the success of Luxembourg's aviation sector.
"At Luxair, you embody the quality of service and reliability that ensure the country's connectivity and the comfort of passengers before, during and after flights. You demonstrated remarkable professionalism, particularly during the repatriation operations in March 2026. At Cargolux, your commitment helps maintain global leadership in air cargo, with a direct impact on the logistics ecosystem, employment and Luxembourg's position as an international hub. Thank you for your exemplary dedication – let us continue together to promote Luxembourg aviation with high standards and pride," Minister Backes said during the medal presentation ceremony.
