On Monday 29 June 2026, the 24th meeting of the Franco-Luxembourg Joint Commission on Nuclear Safety was held in Luxembourg, at the premises of Luxembourg’s Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade (MAE).

The High Commission for National Protection reported that the Luxembourg delegation included representatives from the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, the High Commission for National Protection (HCPN), the Ministry of Health and Social Security, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, as well as the Directorate-General for Energy of the Ministry of the Economy. The French delegation comprised representatives from the French Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Authority (ASNR), the French Embassy in Luxembourg, the Ministry for Energy, the Prefecture of Moselle and Électricité de France (EDF).

The commission said that the meeting provided an opportunity to review several bilateral dossiers, including the Cattenom nuclear power plant, the fourth periodic safety review of 1,300 MWe reactors, cross-border consultations on nuclear projects and Franco–Luxembourg cooperation on information exchange.

Participants also exchanged views on the large-scale nuclear safety and civil protection exercise held in June 2026, which mobilised the competent authorities of both countries in order to strengthen coordination and emergency management.

Moreover, discussions also covered radiation protection issues, particularly in the medical field, including initiatives carried out within European campaigns.

The commission noted that both sides welcomed the high quality of their cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining regular dialogue on nuclear safety, radiation protection and emergency preparedness. They agreed to continue their exchanges at the next meeting of the Joint Commission, which will take place in France in 2027.
