On Friday 10 July 2026, microlux published the results of an impact study carried out with the support of STATEC, which details how the Luxembourg-based microfinance institution has supported more than 1,200 entrepreneurs over the past ten years.
The release of the study coincided with microlux's tenth Anniversary Celebration held at the BGL BNP Paribas Auditorium on Thursday 9 July.
The key points included in the study showed that in ten years of activity in Luxembourg microlux had supported more than 1,200 entrepreneurs, financed 322, disbursed more than €5 million in microloans and created or safeguarded 550 jobs. According to the study, 91% of surveyed beneficiaries are now professionally integrated and 81% of supported businesses are still operating two years after being established.
Microlux said the study confirmed the lasting effects of microcredit combined with personalised support on entrepreneurial journeys, including professional integration, business sustainability, skills development and improvements in beneficiaries' quality of life.
Founded in 2016 by BGL BNP Paribas, ADA, the European Investment Fund (EIF) and Adie, microlux was created with a simple ambition: to enable people who do not have access to traditional bank financing to start or grow their own business. Over the past ten years, microlux has supported more than 1,200 entrepreneurs, provided microloans to 322 entrepreneurs, disbursed more than €5 million in financing and helped create or safeguard 550 jobs across Luxembourg.
Conducted among microlux beneficiaries, the study found that:
• 91% of respondents are now professionally integrated;
• 235 businesses have been created in Luxembourg with the support of microlux;
• 81% of supported businesses are still operating two years after being established;
• 76% of entrepreneurs believe that microlux's support has had a positive impact on their professional practices;
• 73% report improved working conditions;
• 53% say they have achieved a better work-life balance.
Beyond the figures, the study confirmed that microcredit, combined with personalised support, provides a pathway to professional integration and entrepreneurial development for people who would otherwise often have been unable to access the financing needed to bring their business project to life.
Nicolas Otton, Chairman of the Executive Committee of BGL BNP Paribas and Head of BNP Paribas Group in Luxembourg remarked: "Behind every figure in this study is an entrepreneur who has been able to turn an idea into a real project. It is this ability to create opportunities that gives true meaning to BGL BNP Paribas' commitment alongside microlux over the past ten years, helping to ensure access to finance—an essential driver of inclusion and economic development in Luxembourg."
Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, who has supported microlux since its creation, acknowledged the microfinance institution’s achievements in a video message broadcast during the anniversary celebration and extended her thanks to “everyone who has made this possible. First, the microlux team, the founding members, our public and private partners, the volunteers who generously contribute their time, expertise and energy and, of course, the entrepreneurs themselves”.
Building on the findings of this study, microlux said it intends to continue developing its activities in order to extend its impact even further for entrepreneurs facing barriers to accessing traditional bank financing. Anne Muller, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of microlux said: "Over the next ten years, microlux has a clear ambition: to continue opening doors, creating opportunities and enabling even more people to turn an idea into a concrete business project. Our activities have demonstrated their impact; our focus now is on increasing that impact. By pursuing this mission together with our partners, volunteers, team members and entrepreneurs themselves, microlux will continue contributing to a more inclusive, more human-centred form of entrepreneurship that is firmly rooted in the realities of Luxembourg."
