On Thursday 26 June 2025, Amnesty International Luxembourg announced the recent appointment of Giovanna Lanni as its new President.
Giovanna Lanni succeeds Alessandro Morini and now heads the Board of Directors of the human rights organisation's Luxembourg section.
Involved with Amnesty International since 2018, Ms Lanni has focused on defending and combating violence against women and, more generally, gender-based violence. She has been a member of the Board of Directors of Amnesty International Luxembourg since 2023 and became its Vice-President in 2024.
A lawyer by profession, she has worked for fifteen years at the Court of Justice of the European Union. According to Amnesty International Luxembourg, this experience has allowed her to acquire in-depth knowledge of the main fundamental rights issues facing the EU, its Member States and certain geographically close third countries, and to understand and grasp the major future developments and changes in this field.
Hired for a two-year term, Ms Lanni will continue the internal restructuring work underway for several months within Amnesty International Luxembourg, counting on the support of the other current directors, as well as a team of employees "dedicated to making our society a fairer world".
