On Monday 13 July 2026, Luxembourg's Ministry of Health and Social Security announced a €150,000 contribution to the World Health Organization's (WHO) Contingency Fund for Emergencies (CFE) for 2026.
According to the ministry, the contribution reflects Luxembourg's commitment to strengthening its long-standing partnership with the WHO and supporting the organisation's ability to respond rapidly to health emergencies around the world.
Created in 2015 following the Ebola crisis in West Africa, the CFE is the only mechanism that enables the WHO to mobilise financial resources within the first hours of a health emergency, even before a Public Health Emergency of International Concern is formally declared, stated the ministry.
Funded exclusively through voluntary contributions, the CFE has a target capacity of €87.6 million but remains chronically underfunded given the growing frequency and severity of global health crises.
The ministry said Luxembourg's contribution will help strengthen the WHO's capacity to protect vulnerable populations from emerging epidemics and other health emergencies.
It added that the funding also sends a clear signal of Luxembourg's support for multilateral cooperation in global health and international solidarity, while reaffirming the country's commitment to remaining a reliable and predictable partner of the WHO.
