On Tuesday 17 June 2025, a new food truck launched in Luxembourg, serving Indian cuisine.
The Indian Heritage food truck opened in front of the Hotel de Ville in the south-west of the Grand Duchy, operated by Indian Super Market and Foods Sarl-S.
The entrepreneur behind the project, Neelima Vummadisetty, talked with Chronicle.lu and explained that she arrived in Luxembourg a year ago from the south of India, following her husband who arrived the previous year and is engaged at the University of Luxembourg. She explained "Our food truck brings fresh and authentic South Indian dishes like dosas, idlis, vadas, biryanis, butter chicken curries, chats and many more — all prepared with quality ingredients and traditional flavours. We’re proud to introduce this unique experience to the Luxembourg community and look forward to serving at local markets, events and festivals".
The focus of the food served - the food truck menu focusses on South Indian food, also with some North Indian dishes - and of the other produce they plan to bring over from India, will be that it is all geotagged: she explained that the geotags are allocated by governments to provide authenticity.
She further explained: "'Indian Heritage' is also more than just a food truck. It's part of a broader vision. Indian Heritage is Luxembourg’s and possibly Europe’s first-of-its-kind startup focused on importing and promoting Indian Geographical Indication (GI) products and Europe GI products. Soon, we plan to launch a full platform offering authentic Indian antique-style jewellery, ethnic fashion, traditional handcrafts, groceries, spices, fruits and regional foods all GI-tagged and carefully sourced from India and Europe".
The first milestone was to launch the food truck. This planning started ten months ago when they applied for a business licence an trademark; they also sought out a suitable food truck across The Netherlands and Poland, and eventually found what they were looking for in Germany.
The second milestone is to open a physical store in Luxembourg, with the timeline nine to twelve months down the road.
They hope to provide local employment.
The Indian Heritage food truck can be found in front of the Hotel de Ville in Schifflange on Monday lunchtimes (when no other events are organised), on Tuesday lunchtimes from 11:00, and on Friday evenings from 18:00 - 22:00.
