The AlimenTerre Festival in Luxembourg marked a significant milestone on Wednesday 12 November 2025, bringing together more than 400 attendees for a partners’ event at Kinepolis in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.
The evening, organised by European Climate Pact Ambassador Marie-Béatrice Noble together with NGO SOS Faim, which coordinates the festival, featured a screening of the documentary Milked and a gourmet plant-based dinner.
Now in its second edition, the AlimenTerre Festival has expanded, with more than 55 documentary screenings held across Luxembourg this year. According to the organisers, the programme has mobilised companies, schools, the University of Luxembourg and numerous NGOs, reflecting growing public interest in food-system and agri-food issues.
The documentary Milked examines large-scale industrial dairy production in New Zealand and its environmental, health and animal-welfare implications. It also addresses the challenges faced by small farmers within this economic model. The film presents potential pathways for preserving natural resources, including shifts in agricultural policy, increased plant-based production and emerging innovations such as the development of synthetic milk alternatives.
The event included a plant-based gastronomic dinner offered by Sodexo for the second consecutive year. During the evening, Julie Schadeck, Country Manager of Unature, shared personal reflections on her connection to nature and its role in shaping individual and collective action.
“Every choice we make — even the small, everyday ones — shapes the kind of world we help create,” she told attendees, emphasising the importance of recognising the broader impact of daily decisions. Schadeck added: “Real change doesn’t come from more data or facts. It begins when we rebuild our relationship with nature — when we start caring for it the way we care for someone we love.”
For the event, the organisers showcased posters throughout the venue as part of the “What was your spark?” campaign, which featured European Climate Pact Ambassadors describing the moment that prompted their climate engagement, along with recommendations for documentaries that influenced them.
According to the organisers, this initiative sparked numerous discussions among participants, who exchanged ideas on how films and personal experiences can inspire greater awareness of environmental and food-system challenges. The tasting of the plant-based menu prepared by four Sodexo chefs further encouraged conversation on how individuals can contribute, personally and professionally, to ongoing food-transition efforts.
