On Sunday 17 May 2026, current Luxembourg champions FC Differdange 03 secured their nineteenth victory of the BGL Ligue season during Matchday 29, defeating UN Käerjeng 97 2-0 at home.

Yannick Kakoko’s side, which remains top of the league table with a three-point advantage, entered the match following an exhausting Loterie Nationale Coupe de Luxembourg semi-final on Wednesday 13 May 2026. Differdange played 120 minutes against FC Rodange 91 before advancing 7-6 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time.

Against UN Käerjeng 97, Andreas Buch gave the hosts the lead in the 35th minute. The 1-0 scoreline remained unchanged until stoppage time, when Boris Mfounou doubled Differdange’s advantage in the first added minute to calm a tense ending for the home side. Goalkeeper Felipe Ventura completed the match despite suffering an injury to his left leg late in the game, helping his team secure a clean sheet and the 2-0 victory.

“We knew that with our 120 minutes that we played Wednesday, that will be difficult, that we need to be efficient, patient,” FC Differdange head coach Yannick Kakoko told Chronicle.lu. “And we need to say that Käerjeng did a fantastic job, not really making it difficult in case of chances, but they played good, they were really well structured. But we did our job, so that's why I'm really satisfied about that.”

The red-and-blacks could have secured the championship title with one match remaining had their main challengers, Atert Bissen, drawn or lost. However, Bissen also won convincingly at home, defeating Jeunesse Canach 5-0, meaning the title race will now be decided in a direct clash between the two sides on Saturday 23 May 2026 in Bissen.

“It's a great opportunity to have,” said Yannick Kakoko. “We have three points more and we have the opportunity to become champions in Bissen, so we will recover right now and then attack that next challenge. We go there and we will try to win the match like we did all season long. That's why it's a good pressure to have.”
