On Tuesday 19 May 2026, following Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden’s State of the Nation Address, the Fédération des Industries Luxembourgeoises (FEDIL) released its official response and welcomed a number of positive directions in the areas within its remit.
In its statement, FEDIL said it welcomed the government’s commitment to continue implementing the fifty measures jointly developed with industry and the various stakeholders in order to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy in Luxembourg. Regarding photovoltaics in particular, FEDIL welcomed the administrative simplification measures as well as new incentives, while underlining the need to invest also in networks, storage and flexibility. Furthermore, the €150 million package intended to limit the impact of network costs constitutes a strong signal in favour of industrial companies, although this measure will need to be maintained over the long term.
FEDIL also welcomed the announcements linked to strategic technologies, defence and the space sector, in particular the €150 million fund dedicated to start-ups developing “dual-use” technologies, the Defence Campus project in Dudelange, as well as the development of the Space Campus with satellite production and testing capabilities.
FEDIL noted that the strengthening of links between public research and companies is essential in order to further transform scientific excellence into innovation, investment and economic activity in Luxembourg. The organisation also welcomed the initiatives announced in the fields of artificial intelligence and quantum technologies. The intention to develop artificial intelligence solutions operated on infrastructure located in Luxembourg addresses the growing challenges of security, trust and digital sovereignty.
With Luxembourg’s competitiveness regarded as a major issue, FEDIL said it supported measures aimed at strengthening competitiveness and simplifying the business environment, notably by easing company creation procedures, but said that while the strengthening of financial support for SMEs, start-ups and the digital transition is a step in the right direction, additional initiatives will still be necessary to stimulate entrepreneurial initiative.
With a view to the upcoming Tripartite negotiations, FEDIL also echoed Prime Minister Frieden’s call to prioritise dialogue and collective action in order to strengthen both household purchasing power and business competitiveness in a context marked by the repercussions of the crisis in the Middle East and an outlook expected to be particularly difficult.
