On Thursday 11 June 2026, Luxembourg's Minister of Labour, Marc Spautz, participated in the 114th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva, Switzerland.

The annual conference brought together representatives of governments, employers and workers from ILO member states to discuss key challenges and developments in the world of work.

According to Luxembourg's Ministry of Labour, Minister Spautz met with ILO Director-General Gilbert F Houngbo during the conference. Their discussions focused on the importance of social dialogue and social cohesion in the current geopolitical context.

"Tripartism is one of the essential elements in supporting employees and businesses affected by the current crises," said Minister Spautz. He also reaffirmed Luxembourg's commitment to the values and mission of the ILO. According to the ministry, a member of the organisation since 1920, Luxembourg remains a long standing political and financial partner.

On the sidelines of the conference, Minister Spautz also met with Switzerland's State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Jérôme Cosandey. They discussed common challenges facing Luxembourg and Switzerland as countries whose labour markets rely heavily on cross border workers.

Their discussions included the implications of changes to Regulation (EC) No 883/2004, under which responsibility for supporting and paying unemployment benefits to cross border workers who lose their jobs would shift from the country of residence to the country of last employment, said the ministry.

The ministry added that following his participation in the conference, Minister Spautz welcomed the constructive discussions and reaffirmed Luxembourg's commitment to promoting decent work and strong social dialogue.
