The Grand Ducal Police have reported on several traffic enforcement operations and drink-driving incidents that took place on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 June 2026, resulting in dozens of fines, several offences being recorded and three vehicles being immobilised.
On Thursday, between 11:00 and 15:00, the Traffic Police and the Customs and Excise Administration, in cooperation with colleagues from Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany, conducted a large-scale inspection of heavy goods vehicles at the Aire de Wasserbillig service area on the A1 as part of the "Freisener Gespräche", a joint Luxembourg-German traffic enforcement initiative.
The operation focused on transport documentation, load securing, driving and rest periods and the technical condition of vehicles. A total of fifteen lorries were inspected. Police reported sixteen offences related to driving and rest-time regulations and nine cases involving the improper use of tachographs. Additional fines were issued for inadequately secured loads, worn tyres, the general condition of vehicles, missing markings for overlength vehicles and the absence of permits for special transport operations. One driver was reported for overloading a vehicle and three vehicles were immobilised.
Later on Thursday, between 16:30 and 18:00, police carried out a large-scale traffic control operation on Route de Luxembourg in Dudelange.
According to the police, forty fixed-fine notices were issued during the operation. Thirty-seven drivers were fined for using a mobile phone while driving, an offence carrying a €250 fine and four penalty points. Additional offences included the absence of a valid vehicle inspection certificate and the incorrect use of a seatbelt by a minor passenger. Police also identified a vehicle with non-compliant rear-view mirrors. One driver was reported for driving without a valid driving licence, while another signed a waiver after officers found that the maximum speed of his electric scooter exceeded the legal limit.
In separate incidents early on Friday, police stopped two drivers suspected of drink driving.
At around 04:30 in Rue de la Chapelle in Strassen, officers stopped a driver travelling at excessive speed. An alcohol test returned a positive result and the driver's licence was immediately confiscated.
Shortly before 06:00 in Rue du Fort Neipperg in Luxembourg-Gare district, police stopped another driver after observing dangerous driving behaviour. Officers detected clear signs of alcohol consumption and a subsequent alcohol test returned a positive result. A temporary driving ban was issued.
