The Grand Ducal Police have reported that two people were seriously injured following a traffic accident on the A3 motorway during the early hours of Saturday 4 July 2026.

According to the police, officers were alerted to the incident at around 00:50. The accident occurred on the A3 motorway between the Aire de Berchem exit and the Livange entrance in the direction of France.

Based on the initial findings, a car travelling at high speed towards France first collided with the central crash barrier before crashing into another vehicle. The first car immediately caught fire following the impact and was completely destroyed by the flames.

Both drivers sustained serious injuries, with one suffering severe burns. They were taken to hospital for treatment.

The motorway was closed in the direction of France from the Croix de Gasperich interchange while emergency services responded and clean-up operations were carried out. The Grand Ducal Police later confirmed that the right-hand lane had reopened with a temporary speed limit in place, while the overtaking lane remains closed to allow repair works to be completed.

The Public Prosecutor's Office instructed the Accident Investigation and Forensic Unit of the Criminal Police to investigate the cause of the accident.

The police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information that may assist the investigation to contact the Traffic Police (UPR-SIA) by tel.: 244175-200, by email: upr@police.etat.lu, or via the emergency number 113.
