On Wednesday 15 July 2026, the Directorate General of Immigration of Luxembourg’s Ministry of Home Affairs published its monthly overview of applications for international protection and temporary protection in the Grand Duchy for June 2026.

International Protection

A total of 131 people applied for international protection in Luxembourg in June 2026, compared to 106 in June 2025 and 109 in June 2024. Since the beginning of the year, Luxembourg has received 698 applications for international protection, down from 899 during the same period in 2024.

Authorities notified 157 decisions on international protection applications in June 2026, bringing the total number of decisions this year to 878. Of these, 57 resulted in the granting of refugee status, with none placed in subsidiary protection status. A total of 22 applications were rejected under the normal procedure, while 21 were rejected under the accelerated procedure.

According to the directorate, the highest number of applicants in June were from Venezuela (24), followed by Sudan (17), Afghanistan (10), Somalia (9), Eritrea (8), Syria (7), Colombia (6), Algeria (5) and Russia (5). Nationals from other countries accounted for 40 applications.

Temporary Protection

A total of 45 people applied for temporary protection in Luxembourg in June 2026, down from 72 in May. Since the beginning of the year, the country has received a total of 424 temporary protection applications.

Authorities took 50 decisions on temporary protection applications in June, bringing the total number of decisions this year to 4,003. Of these, 382 resulted in the granting of temporary protection, while 3,583 concerned renewals.

Most applicants in June (42) were Ukrainian nationals, while three applicants came from other countries. Ukrainian nationals have also represented the vast majority of applicants for temporary protection so far this year, accounting for 405 out of 424 applications (95.9%).
