On 3 November 2016, Luxembourg’s Minister for Cooperation and Humanitarian Action, Romain Schneider, received the executive director of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Babatunde Osotimehin in Luxembourg.
Yesterday, Romain Schneider and Babatunde Osotimehin met in Luxembourg to discuss Luxembourg’s contributions to UNFPA’s programmes and its new strategic plan. The discussions mostly dealt with the critical importance of family planning as part of Agenda 2030 for sustainable development.
On this occasion, Luxembourg and UNFPA signed an agreement for a long-term plan concerning the integration of adolescents’ rights and health as well as ways of controlling demographic growth through policies and programmes in Niger, one of Luxembourg’s partner countries for development.
The role of partnerships both with the private sector and civil society was highlighted at the discussions.
Moreover, between 2 and 4 November in Kirchberg, Luxembourg is hosting the annual meeting for UNFPA’s partners for the supply of reproductive health products. The meeting brings together public and private figures as well as those in the area of medical research. Marc Angel, president of the Commission for Foreign and European Affairs, Defense, Cooperation and Immigration at the Chamber of Deputies, attended the inauguration of this event.
