On Thursday 4 June 2026, the CFL Group laid the foundation stone for its future training centre, in the presence of Luxembourg’s Minister for Mobility and Public Works, Yuriko Backes, Chairman of the CFL Board of Directors, Jeannot Waringo, Chief Executive Officer of CFL, Marc Wengler, and the CFL Immo project team.
The ceremony took place at the construction site on Rue de la Déportation in Luxembourg-Hollerich, in the immediate vicinity of Hollerich Railway Station. It was accompanied by the placement of a time capsule marking this important milestone for the CFL Group.
“This new building, which is scheduled to enter service by the end of 2028, is fully aligned with the CFL Group’s strategy. The new Training Centre embodies our group’s commitment to continuing the development of our employees’ skills throughout their careers in order to sustainably ensure customer satisfaction,”summarised Marc Wengler, Chief Executive Officer of CFL.
“With this new centre, CFL is strengthening its capacity to train highly qualified talent and providing its employees with the means to acquire the expertise required to carry out their duties. The entire workforce plays an indispensable role and forms the true backbone of public transport. This centre also supports the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works in its efforts to provide a high-quality and efficient rail service every day,”stated Minister Backes.
The new Training Centre is intended to promote and sustainably strengthen both initial and continuing training for employees in a sector where requirements relating to safety, technical expertise and innovation are particularly high.
A Centralised and Multi-Dimensional Training Hub
Located on a single site, the future training centre will provide nearly 7,200 m² of above-ground gross floor area spread across several storeys. It will eventually accommodate the CFL Group’s various training facilities, including classrooms, offices, spaces dedicated to railway professions, as well as specialised infrastructure such as a railway driving and operations simulator and virtual reality training facilities.
Part of the new building will be made available to Luxembourg’s Ministry of Education, Children and Youth to meet its requirements for training rooms and office space.
A Property Development Combining Heritage, Urban Planning and Modernity
The project is being developed by CFL Immo, the CFL Group’s property subsidiary, as part of its mission to manage and enhance the railway property assets of the State and CFL. Particular attention has been given to integrating the new building into a sensitive urban and historic environment near the Deportation Memorial and the listed forecourt of Hollerich Railway Station.
The design of the building, the result of close collaboration with the National Institute for Architectural Heritage (INPA), complies with the heritage requirements of the site while expressing a contemporary, functional and open architectural style. The main entrance to the Training Centre will be via the historic forecourt, thereby contributing to the enhancement of the site on Rue de la Déportation.
Sustainability, Wellbeing and Innovation at the Heart of the Project
Designed to the highest standards, the future Training Centre is targeting a BREEAM “Excellent” certification for sustainable construction and a WELL Platinum certification, guaranteeing a high level of wellbeing, comfort and quality of the working environment.
The building will benefit from abundant natural light, optimised thermal comfort and innovative energy technologies.
An Investment in Talent and the Future of Rail
With this new Training Centre, the CFL Group said it is investing simultaneously in skills development, quality of working life and the sustainable enhancement of its property assets, reaffirming its role as a committed public-sector organisation serving mobility, employment and the sustainable transition in Luxembourg.
