Tomorrow, Wednesday 20 April 2016, at precisely 08:00, the Lidl supermarket chain opens a new outlet in Beggen offering a wide range of fresh products which are the ingredients of a healthy and balanced diet.
Following the opening of the Lidl store in Strassen in February, Lidl has engaged 24 new employees for this latest store, the 9th in the Grand Duchy.
Unlike the Strassen store which was newly-built, the Beggen store is in a building that used to house a car dealership, with just the shell remaining following extensive redevelopment. The new store features stylish aesthetics, similar to that of the Lidl store in Strassen.
Started on 1 September 2015, the renovation and expansion lasted seven and a half months. An additional 215 m2 were added to the original structure to create a cooking space for the bakery and cold stoage rooms in which to keep perishables fresh. The scale of construction, weather conditions and some uncertainties, including the final redefinition of the external facade non originally planned, led to a one-month delay of the opening, initially announced for March.
The net area of the supermarket amounts to 1.285 m2. It is located on a particularly busy route, along the national road connecting the city of Luxembourg to the northern towns of the country including Mersch, Ettelbruck and Diekirch.
The new Lidl store offers a corner bakery and fresh pastries, an assortment of fresh fruits, vegetables, fish and meat, some of which are available in bulk. Furthermore, mini peppers, mini cucumbers, mini apples, etc., marketed under the brand Maya the Bee, are available by the cash-desks to encourage impulse purchases. "With this action," said Julien Wathieu, spokesman for Lidl, "we hope to make healthy food more accessible to all."
Lidl Beggen has also announced that the opening on 20 April will see a draw take place, the winner of which will be offered one minute of free shopping as the first customer of Lidl Beggen.
