Luxembourg managed to secure its position in the Greater Region as BBQ champion as the Let’z Grill team took home the title of Soutwest Germany BBQ this Saturday, 7 May, making it the second year in a row that the Luxembourgish grill team has won the regional championship.
A total of eight teams took part in this year’s competition, including three teams from Luxembourg: Let’z Grill, Grill Junkies and Den Deifferdenger Grill Club.
The Let’z Grill team, which was represented by Ben Péporté, Yves Zolver, Luc Hoffmann and Leila Schanck, got an extra helping hand from Anne Faber, who supported the team at the championship.
Contestants had to compete in four different categories at BBQ championship in Bexbach: “Grillwurst”, “Chicken”, “Vegetarian” and “Dessert”.
Let’z Grill won the first prize in the “Grillwurst” category: they had wrapped a barbecued sausage in chorizo, cheese and a Mediterranean pizza dough, which they baked in the barbecue.
The jury gave second place to their chicken creation, a duo of bacon-wrapped chicken legs – one stuffed with mango chutney, the other with a spinach and ricotta filling.
Second place was also given to a duo of veggie burgers – a real win for grillmaster Ben Péporte who serves these homemade veggie burgers on a daily basis at his food truck Betty Buvette outside the Rotondes in Luxembourg-Bonnevoie.
Dessert was an upside-down whisky marmalade cake and a chocolate fondant, both baked on the barbecue.
Overall, Let’z Grill managed to convince the jury with their entire menu and took home the title of Southwest Germany Grill Champions. The title is allocated by the German Barbecue Association.
