On Saturday 17 October 2026, Luxembourg’s National Fund for the Support of Audiovisual Production reported on the involvement of a delegation from the Grand Duchy in a prospecting and promotional mission to Tokyo, Busan and Seoul.
The mission, which took place From Wednesday 7 to Wednesday 14 October, was organised by Film Fund Luxembourg, with logistical support from the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg’s embassies in Tokyo and Seoul.
The delegation from Luxembourg’s audiovisual sector, led by Luxembourg’s Minister for Culture Eric Thill, brought together around fifteen professionals representing various areas of the audiovisual industry, including production, directing, screenwriting, animation and immersive experiences. Through an intensive programme of visits, meetings and professional exchanges, the delegation had the opportunity to discover the audiovisual ecosystems of Japan and South Korea.
One of the highlights of the mission was the signing in Busan of a memorandum of understanding between Film Fund Luxembourg and the Korean Film Council (KOFIC). The agreement establishes a new framework for cooperation aimed at strengthening exchanges between the two institutions and encouraging further collaboration between professionals in the Luxembourg and South Korean audiovisual sectors, particularly in co-production, project development and knowledge-sharing. The signing reflects the two organisations’ shared commitment to developing their relationship and fostering future partnerships.
In Tokyo, Film Fund Luxembourg, in collaboration with Unijapan and the Japan Film Commission, organised a seminar showcasing Luxembourg’s audiovisual sector, followed by a networking event bringing together representatives of the Japanese industry and the Luxembourg delegation.
At the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) and its industry market, one of Asia’s key audiovisual industry events, the five Luxembourg producers took part in the “Producer Hub” programme, which focuses on developing co-productions between Asia and the rest of the world. This collaborative momentum is exemplified by Dora, a Korean-Luxembourgish co-production directed by July Jung, which was presented in its Asian premiere at the festival.
In total, nearly 30 visits and professional meetings, along with numerous business-to-business (B2B) meetings, were organised during the mission to Japan and South Korea. In parallel, representatives of Film Fund Luxembourg and the ministerial delegation took part in several high-level bilateral institutional meetings with partners including VIPO, the Japan Agency for Cultural Affairs, Japan’s Ministry of Culture, the Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA).
The mission aimed to foster mutual understanding between stakeholders in the audiovisual sectors of the three countries, identify opportunities for collaboration with Japan and the Republic of Korea, and encourage the development of new international partnerships and co-productions. Participants had the opportunity to meet institutional representatives, production studios, companies specialising in immersive technologies, and several major players in the local cultural and creative industries.
