An arts promotion organisation, I Love Graffiti asbl and the Ville de Luxembourg (VdL) have announced the 25th edition of “LE MUR Luxembourg”, which will officially open on Thursday 29 May 2026 at 18:00 on the façade of the Lëtzebuerg City Museum.
The façade will feature a mural created by French artist Jean Rooble. His real name is Romain Thiriau. According to organisers he is a self taught visual artist and graffiti artist based in Bordeaux. Influenced from an early age by drawing and deeply marked by hip hop culture, he discovered painting through graffiti in the late 1990s. He initially developed work focused on lettering before gradually expanding his practice towards more figurative forms.
After around ten years of experimentation in urban spaces, he specialised in creating photorealistic portraits. His work creates a dialogue between contemporary urban art and classical painting, notably through his use of chiaroscuro and his strong technical command of spray paint.
Organisers describe his portraits as “strikingly realistic”. Often based on his own photographs, Jean Rooble highlights anonymous everyday faces. He therefore offers socially engaged and accessible art that questions the place of people in public spaces and seeks to provoke a strong reaction from viewers, noted the organisers.
