On Friday 17 June 2016, the new Maison de la Grande Région was inaugurated in Esch-sur-Alzette at the initiative of the Minister Corinne Cahen.
The inauguration forms part of Luxembourg's commitment to the development of cross-border cooperation. Advances have thus far been made in the areas of integration in the labour market, mobility, transports, higher education and research, education and training, multilingualism and culture. With 219,000 commuter workers, the Greater Region is currently a major area for cross-border flows in Europe.
A platform for meetings and exchanges, the Maison de la Grande Région ("House of the Greater Region") brings together key players in cross-border cooperation:
- the Secretariat of the Greater Region Summit
- the Joint Secretariat of the Economic and Social Committee of the Greater Region (CESGR)
- the representation of the State Chancellery of Rhineland-Palatinate
- Cultural Space Greater Region
- the EuRegio SaarLorLux +
- the network of cities Quattropole
- the network of cities Tonicités
- the Managing Authority and the Joint Secretariat of the INTERREG V programme Greater Region
- the Institute of the Greater Region.
The Maison de la Grande Région also serves as a contact point for interested citizens seeking information on the subject.
