On Friday 22 August 2025, POST Luxembourg advised that from Friday 29 August 2025 all consignments of goods to the United States, regardless of their value, will be subject to customs duties.
According to POST Luxembourg, the change is in accordance with a decree dated Wednesday 30 July 2025 in which the United States authorities announced the abolition of the customs duty exemption which had previously applied to shipments valued at up to $800.
POST Luxembourg stated that the technical details of this reform were only published by US Customs in mid-August and several operational and technical aspects remain unclear in the official guidelines. This situation currently makes it impossible to send parcels to the United States via the postal network.
Although the decree does not enter into force until Friday 29 August, a suspension will take effect from Saturday 23 August in order to prevent parcels sent in the meantime from being blocked in the postal system owing to a lack of appropriate processing.
POST Luxembourg stressed that these new rules apply exclusively to parcels. The posting of documents remains possible without restriction.
While awaiting the implementation of the necessary procedures within the postal network and in order to ensure continuity of service, POST Luxembourg, in cooperation with its partner DHL, is offering an alternative solution allowing both private and business customers to continue sending their parcels to the United States.
This solution, which uses DHL’s international express network, is available only at “Espaces POST” and post offices. It is not offered at “Points POST” located with partner retailers.
POST Luxembourg emphasised that the sending of letters to the United States remains possible throughout the entire sales network, including in “Points POST”.
