On Thursday 4 December 2025, the Directorate of Immigration of Luxembourg's Ministry of Home Affairs published the latest figures on applications for international protection and temporary protection in the Grand Duchy for November 2025.
International Protection
A total of 132 people applied for international protection in Luxembourg in November 2025 (compared to 184 in October 2025 and 207 in November 2024). To date this year, Luxembourg has received 1,648 applications for international protection, down from 1,770 during the same period in 2024.
Authorities took 113 decisions on asylum applications in November, granting refugee status to 56 applicants (61 in October).
According to the directorate, most applicants in November were Eritrean nationals (21), followed by those from Afghanistan (nine) and Venezuela (eight). Other represented nationalities included Moroccan (seven), Sudanese (seven), Congolese (DRC; six), Tunisian (six), Turkish (six) and Ivorian (Ivory Coast; five).
So far in 2025, most applications have come from Eritrean nationals (307), followed by Syrian (179), Algerian (86), Venezuelan (82) and Afghan (79) nationals.
Temporary Protection
A total of 112 people applied for temporary protection in Luxembourg in November 2025 (down from 125 in October). So far this year, the country has received a total of 1,070 such applications.
Authorities took 107 decisions on temporary protection applications in November, with 104 applicants being granted this status (also 104 in October).
Most applicants in November (106) were Ukrainian nationals, while six applicants came from other unspecified countries.
Ukrainian nationals have also represented the largest group (987) among applicants for temporary protection so far this year. Moreover, there have been applications from 23 Algerian nationals, nine Moroccan nationals, seven Armenian nationals, five Indian nationals and 39 nationals of other unspecified countries.
