On Friday 5 December 2025, the Grand Ducal Police reported details of the checks carried out at Luxembourg Airport as part of the Hazeldonk cooperation.

According to the Grand Ducal Police, the checks, which bring together the Benelux countries and France to combat illicit drug flows, were carried out at Luxembourg Airport on Wednesday 3 December 2025.

The operation involved several police units and the Customs and Excise Administration (ADA). A total of 27 police officers and 24 Customs and Excise agents took part. They checked 393 passengers and 293 pieces of luggage on four flights.

The checks did not uncover any offences, but the authorities stressed that monitoring the airport — Luxembourg’s only external border outside the Schengen area — plays a crucial role in preventing the importation of illegal substances.

Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and France created the Hazeldonk cooperation in 2006 to fight cross-border, organised drug distribution networks. Joint operations cover road, rail and air traffic. The cooperation takes its name from a Dutch village on the Belgian border located along one of the main routes used by European drug traffickers.
