On Tuesday 13 January 2026, the College of Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Luxembourg (Ville de Luxembourg - VdL) awarded the Prix Anne Beffort 2025 (Anne Beffort Prize) to Alice Welter, content creator and founder of the Instagram page “L’effrontée”, in recognition of her work promoting gender equality and raising awareness of social issues through social media within Luxembourg City.

The ceremony took place at the Hôtel de Ville (City Hall), in the presence of members of the Consultative Commission for Equal Opportunities and the Municipal Council.

According to VdL, the 2025 edition was based on the theme of “raising awareness of gender equality through social media, with a focus on youth”. Through the award, the College of Mayor and Aldermen sought to recognise the commitment of Alice Welter, an independent journalist and creator of the Instagram account “L’effrontée”. Through this platform, she offers a feminist perspective on current affairs, highlights the inequalities faced by women in Luxembourg and works to break the silence surrounding these issues.

VdL noted that, having herself been confronted with sexist attitudes in the professional environment and disappointed by the sometimes biased treatment of information in certain media, Alice Welter launched what she describes as the “first Luxembourg feminist media outlet” on Instagram in November 2023. Today, “L’effrontée” has more than 30,000 followers and publishes between one and three posts daily, addressing topics such as national and international current affairs, the place of women in society, as well as testimonies and lived experiences of women in Luxembourg. According to VdL, the account has quickly become a platform for expression, where women can speak openly, share their experiences and help break a silence that remains all too prevalent.

Since 2003, the College of Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Luxembourg, on the initiative of the Consultative Commission for Equal Opportunities between Women and Men, has awarded the Prix Anne Beffort each year. The prize is named after the co-founder of the Lycée de Jeunes Filles in Luxembourg and the first female teacher in the Grand Duchy. Endowed with €3,000 to those who work daily for a more equal future and a society in which everyone has their place on an equal footing.
