The Grand Ducal Police have reported that 133 driving-related offences were recorded during road safety checks in Luxembourg City and Bissen on Wednesday 14 January 2026.
According to the police, as part of efforts to improve overall road safety, the police carried out large-scale traffic checks on Wednesday between 07:00 and 12:00 in several districts of Luxembourg City.
The focus of these checks was primarily on road safety around schools, compliance with speed limits, the wearing of seatbelts and the use of mobile phones while driving. In total, 93 offences against the Highway Code were recorded.
In 86 cases, fixed-penalty notices were issued. These included 23 fines for deficiencies in vehicle documentation. Nine drivers were found to have exceeded the prescribed speed limit, while in five cases vehicles had technical defects, including issues with lighting and tyres.
A further nine drivers were fined for not wearing a seatbelt or for transporting a child without the required child seat. Thirteen drivers were penalised for using their mobile phone while at the wheel. In seven cases, formal reports were drawn up for offences including driving without a licence and lack of valid vehicle insurance.
A total of 28 police officers from the traffic police and various other police units took part in the checks.
In addition to the checks in Luxembourg City, on Wednesday morning traffic police carried out a traffic control on Rue du Fossé in Bissen, where a general driving ban currently applies due to a construction site.
A total of 36 drivers were fined because they had disregarded the traffic warning sign. In four cases, fines were also issued due to issues relating to vehicle documentation (tax vignette, driver's licence).
